Choosing Technology for Your New Project // BUSINESS 565, TECH 121

Daniel Doubrovkine, Head of Engineering, Art.sy

Tuesday, July 5th, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

Ruby on Rails or PHP? MySQL or MongoDB? Java or C#? Heroku or Amazon? Will this scale? Will it perform? With so many options, it's hard to make decisions about which technology to use to build and deploy your next web idea or application, difficult to convince others and risky to trust someone else to make these decisions for you.

In this course you will learn how to approach this problem, discover the essential vocabulary of technology stacks and learn which questions to ask. This class is equally suited for both a technical and a non-technical audience and will focus on the decision-making process using some real world examples of modern technology start-ups.

Daniel Doubrovkine is a a long time technology manager, entrepreneur and open-source cheerleader. After having existed a successful Swiss startup in the late 90s, Daniel moved to the United States and spent several years as development lead at Microsoft Corp., in Redmond. Pursuing his childhood dream of living in New York City he then joined Visible Path, a Kleiner Perkins social networking venture in the Flatiron District. In 2006 he began his tenure at AppSec Inc., a New York-based software company specializing in database security, risk and compliance, where he managed a team of 35 building large scale Enterprise Software. Finally, Daniel recently returned to his start-up roots as head of engineering at Art.sy.
